POROSIDADES E CONTACTOS

Uma Avenida cujos múltiplos significados se distanciaram da génese do território em questão. Tanto a conquista do território, quanto as várias experimentações e invenções realizadas do espaço de contacto “entre” o sólido e o líquido, conferem a este lugar uma condição de transformação que ofusca a memória de um lugar insular e inabitado. Diversos tempos, necessidades e utilizações construíram esta frente de cidade.

Propõe-se como estratégia, desobstruir a linha de costa, permitir o contacto com o meio aquático redesenhando a linha de costa como um lugar de partilha entre o meio urbano e o meio oceânico através de uma estrutura única, integral.

O desenho de uma estrutura que possibilita o contacto com a água por si só, prevê uma diversidade de possibilidades de concretizações que podem povoar estes fins de terra e inícios de mar.

Este encontro, da paisagem erguida sobre o Atlântico, com a baía do Funchal, já não o é. Desencontra-se, presentemente, por  sucessivos braços  que assinalam múltiplas tentativas de dominar  um  espaço  de água. Estas acções  humanas contemporâneas, distanciam este lugar do carácter polissémico que deve assumir.

A pluralidade de programas que pode aportar, neste mesmo  lugar, em diferentes tempos, são incontáveis, por isso, deve desenhar-se uma infra-estrutura elementar que consinta o aparecimento de estruturas leves, transformáveis e desmontáveis.

Podemos nadar sobre a ideia de uma frente de mar, constante, rígida e depurada que vai sendo povoada por elementos que inscrevem vontades de cada tempo, evoluções e memórias. Manifestações de poder sobre uma plataforma comum.

An avenue whose multiple meanings have distanced itself from the genesis of the territory in question. Both the conquest of the territory and the various experiments and inventions made on the contact space “between” the solid and the liquid give this place a condition of transformation that overshadows the memory of an insular and uninhabited place. Different times, needs and uses have built this city front.

As a strategy, it’s proposed to clear the coastline, to allow contact with the aquatic environment, redesigning the coastline as a place of sharing between the urban and the oceanic environment through a unique and integral structure.

The design of a structure that enables contact with the water by itself, foresees a diversity of possibilities of concretizations that can populate these ends of land and beginnings of sea.

This meeting, of the landscape rising over the Atlantic, with the bay of Funchal, doesn’t happen anymore. Today, it is separated by successive arms which mark multiple attempts to dominate a space of water. These contemporary human actions distance this place from the polysemic character it should assume.

The plurality of programmes that can take place, at different times, are countless, so an elementary infrastructure should be designed to allow the appearance of light, transformable and dismountable structures.

We can swim on the idea of a constant, rigid and purified seafront that is populated by elements that inscribe the desires of each time, evolutions and memories. Manifestations of power on a common platform.
